Cakes II In Toronto ( 6:45 pm - 7:45 pm )

Come join us for a series of seven workshops in feminist theology. This woman-honouring, adult UU religious program examines how women’s lives would be different if, when growing up, the divine had been imaged as female. Together we'll take a journey into the past to reclaim the stories of powerful women in ancient Judaism and early Christianity. We’ll look at the global silencing and brutalization of women that accompanied the rise of patriarchal religion and society. We will celebrate the exciting new world-view and theology that has emerged in our time, and explore the personal and social changes they may suggest.

Mondays: January 9, 16, 30; February 6, 13, 27; March 5, 6:45 9:30 pm. Registration: $30 (sliding scale available, cheques payable to First Unitarian Congregation).

Facilitators: Debbie Kirkland and Patricia Klein. For full course description and to register please contact Debbie Kirkland (416-275-8359 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Cakes I In Albuquerque, NM ( 7:00 pm )

Presented by the First UU Church of Albuquerque, NM:

This program explores the archeological evidence of Goddess worship in the ancient roots of civilization, when the divine was seen as female. The influence of mainstream religions on our position in society will be investigated and we will examine the emergence of the women’s spirituality movement.

Part 1, will be held for five months, on the second Wednesday of each month, from 7-9pm. With the exception of March where this conflicts with APS spring break. The dates are as follows: Jan. 11, Feb. 8, March 7, April 11, and May 9. Classes covering Part 2, On the Threshold, will resume in September.

Rieka Long will be leading class sessions in her home and group size is limited.
